Our life with the Wayana indians

Wajana language

When we greet someone in the morning we exchange the same question and awnser again and again: Are you awake`? In Wajana ‘Ëwetomam ka’ (Ë = ‘uh’ and e ‘eh’). It is a matter of getting used to also asking this when you meet someone at noon.

We get to know more and more of the people in the village. Some are very helpfull in patiently repeating what they are saying in order to help us learn their language. We use ‘Mujalë kaikë’ (say it again) a lot. More than once people laugh about the way we say things. Roy tells us this also shows how they enjoy the fact that we as foreigners want to learn their language. We pray and hope we’ll find a way to show the love of Jesus in the process.

Weekend in Palamino pata

Last weekend we went 2 hours upstream, together with one of the elders of the Lawa church, visiting a small group of believers. We were able to encourage about 50 people with 4 messages and some movies, one portraying the life of the Apostle Paul and the other was named ‘the enemy God’ showing how a Indian group in Venezuela became Christians and how this changed their way of living total. We left Friday around noon. During the river trip we wrote down the names of villages, Chinese shops, rapids etc. in order to get to know our way around. It was a wonderful trip.

Marco was able to speak twice, translated by Roy, from the fist two chapters of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. After the services we enjoyed a nice meal. Two days we were treated with chicken and rice (a rare thing in the middle of the jungle). We were also invited to enjoy the local meals: cassava bread, fish and pepper sauce. This is a group experience (!) so nobody needs a plate.

Do you know what we show on this picture? If you know, let us all read this in your reaction form.

After arriving back at Lawa Marjolein fell down backwards about 7 feet while climbing the steep steps up from the riverside. We all were amazed to learn that she only suffered small bruises on her pulse and ankle. What a miracle! We praise God for his protection.

Thank you all for you prayers and encouragements by (e-)mail. As you can see God answer’s our prayers. We also pray for you all and trust all is well.
