Orientation trip November and December

| Geen reacties

Friday October 28’ we fly to Paramaribo. The first days we visit our daughter Elsbeth and some of our friends in Paramaribo. November 2’ we fly into the jungle, together with Roy and Margaret Lytle. We plan to visit Kawemhakan (Lawa) first. We hope to stay for 12 days. Then we continue our trip to Apetina. We look forward to meet the people with who we will live and study the coming years. These are the leaders of the villages and the church, our language helpers and the members of the church. We start with our language study right away. We will look at what is available on food and other supplies. We will sleep in our hammocks. Look at the present power supply for electricity. And ask much more questions when we walk around.

Our plan for the coming 5 years is that we will live and work in two villages. We will live in the mission houses of World Team in Apetina and Kawemhakan. We plan to live in one village for 4 months. After this we‘ll fly to the city for shopping and several formalities. Then we travel to the other village, in order to live there 4 months. For us this means a type of back-pack – living for the coming 5 years. Our goal is that we get to know the people, learn the Wajana language get and insight in the culture of the Wajana Indians.

We expect to return to Paramaribo on November 24. Marjolein returns to the Netherlands on November 27’. Marco will stay in Suriname until December 9’ in order to carry out several things in preparing our living conditions in the coming year.

People sometimes ask for the travel expenses we will face when flying into the interior in Suriname. A one way flight from Paramaribo to Apetina costs per plane (= 400 kilos of cargo, including passengers)  US $ 780 (euro 561). A flight from Paramaribo to Kawemhakan will cost US $ 915 (euro 658). The return flight is less expensive. Apetina – Paramaribo = US $ 250 (euro 180), Kawemhakan – Paramaribo = US $ 225 (euro 162). Please pray with us that we can travel safe and low budget.
