Our life with the Wayana indians

Back home at Kawemhakan

Last week we returned to Lawa, after a six weeks furlough in the Netherlands. This feels back home again after a beautiful and busy period visiting churches, family and friends.20131116-164418.jpg (picture shows Andre, Jiska and Elisabeth all three together in Delft)

We had the opportunity to be at our son Andre’s defence of his paper for his Masters in Business Administration at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. We are so proud of him, his wife and his children. They missed their dad a lot the last two years.
We enjoyed our time with our children and grandchildren very much.20131116-164701.jpg (picture show Anneke presenting cooked rabbit to the people of Lawa)

In Lawa Anneke Kempers and Ilse van Dijk opened the house a few days before we arrived. They took care of the nessecary cleaning, preparing the house for the coming weeks. This time Anneke visits the Wayana for the last time in serving the people and the children in a Children Bible Week. Ilse helps her out in Wayana presenting different teachings to the children. This took place this past week. 20131116-164926.jpg (picture Children Bible Week)

This past week we started reconstucting the water system in the village. This project was funded by two churches in the Netherlands. We plan to make 24 distibution points and renew the main pipe that comes down from the mountain behind the village.
This means a lot of digging, mixing cement with sand and pebbles etc. A lot of sweaty, wet work, but we see the men of Kawemhakan work closely together to accomplish the task.
