M & M in Suriname

Our life with the Wayana indians

Only two more nights…

| Geen reacties

We made arrangements to leave Paramaribo the first of May. Early in the morning someone with a 4-ton truck will pick us up, driving us with our entire luggage to Albina (border town next to French-Guyana).

We travel with at least 1.000 kg luggage, 1 outboard, 4 drums of gasoline and 42 packs’ of cement.

After staying the night in Albina we meet an elder from Lawa who came down the river on Tuesday to pick us up in his big canoe. We then hope to leave Albina Wednesday morning for a two days boat trip up to Lawa.

You bet we have our rain capes at hand…

In spite of some promises from Telesur that we would have an Internet connection at Lawa we found out this was not accurate at all. We only expect access to our e-mails when visiting Maripasula once a month. All our exchange of info will have to take place through radio-contact via the medical post in the village connecting to MAF in town.

Our 20ft container was put on the spot. As soon as the weather changes into dry season friends will move our boxes that have arrived in the mean time to our container. We are pleased that in the past week quite some boxes arrived that have to be taken along to Lawa. Everything is stored now in the carport of Elsbeth and Rafaels’ house. Is begins to look like a small warehouse now.

The more than 50 boxes with our library have been delivered at Agape. We are grateful everything arrived safe. Agape is happy to be able to use our books in a special study facility with the students involved.

We greet you from a rainy Paramaribo,

Marco en Marjolein
